Fasting is something which has always been around me from a young age. As I went into religion I fasted more on festive occasions, then detoxed on and off for the past 16 years. I was never one for medicines, tablets etc. I just chose the natural route not really realising that my body needed it a lot. My father is a herbalist and he always gave me stuff to take so it became a habit.
As you grow older things make a lot of sense. One thing is certain no matter how long the healing process took, I always got better.
I had cervical cancer CIN1 and had to go for a biopsy and regular check ups at the Colposcopy Dept, then had a lump under my armpit, no body knew what it was and scheduled me to remove it, on the day of surgery I went in and they did another scan told me the lump had disappeared and that surgery wasn't needed. There were many periods were I would go on a strict Vegan diet, each time cancelled it out. Religiously I fasted 5 times in each year, 2 days each week, whereas Lent was the longest of 60 days.
Having moved away from the religious aspect of fasting and detoxing I feel a lot more whole and free. The church couldn't explain some of the things that I was awakening to being in a lighter body. They kept using scriptures which didn't explain what I was experiencing, it always left some sort of void.
I sought out a mentor, waited for some guidance and my journey still continues 10 years now. Had I not been open to try different things I would of remained stuck. So I'm happy. I never realised how unhappy I was until I got my happy back.
My life was about being in that survival mode, plodding on day to day, not giving me that time. I found doing something for me really hard to grasp because I was constantly busy working, training, providing and looking after my family, being an active member within the community.
Fasting & detoxing has become a part of my life now, I've known the benefits from the past. Whether my health deteriorating or not I'd still be fasting. The body does grow older, if you allow it too. Having aged I'm now able to work with my body to keep it youthful. There are some things which the body lacks over period of times, but there's no need to let it die before it's time. Our cells are living and finding ways to nurture it can slow down the aging process, the foods that we're eating can contribute to a faster aging process because it starves the cells, tissues, breaks down our organs in our body.
Sometimes we have to go through these things in order to understand how our body works. Everybody's experiences are different and unique. What works for me, might not work for someone else for eg oxalate in fruits and vegetables can cause more issues in someone suffering with diabetes or high blood pressure without realising. High contents of sugar creates a vicious cycle. Candida and a leaky gut has risen a lot since the 1970's as the food industries started to change.
That's why it's important to seek advise from a reputable doctor, medical advisor, or a health nutritionist.
Naturally our bodies take time to regenerate and heal. If we cut ourselves it takes time, but while the cut heals the whole body can heal also making the whole healing process a successful one.
So on that note enjoy your experience...this has been an amazing journey for me. It's hard work, worth every penny. I just look forward to each day that comes. No one likes being unwell, but finding ways to encourage your wellbeing is absolutely exciting.
